Getting around in Russia is hard. It isn’t even a reasonable amount of hard. I have decided it is near impossible. This is mostly because I have yet to master the art of walking on black ice without almost falling. The ice here has built up over the winter and is on the sidewalks to stay until it melts in the spring. As I walked through Stockmann’s, the Nordstrom’s of Russia, I realized that Russians are completely prepared to face the impossible conditions they live in. Heeled boots here are fur lined and have as much traction as snow boots, a mix between style and practicality. I have yet to move past my snow boots into the fashionable category, but in the near future I might be inclined to buy a pair without a heel to look more Russian. We shall see what happens!
